Marilina Marchica was born in Agrigento in 1984, where she lives and works. Graduated in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and the Polytechnic University of Valencia, her artistic research explores the theme of subtraction and the aesthetics of the sign, using architecture and walls as metaphors of the relationships between man, nature and time. Through fragments and waste materials, her works investigate the dialogue between form and matter, pushing themselves to the limits of abstraction. Marilina has exhibited in solo shows at the FAM Gallery in Agrigento, San Sebastiano Contemporary in Palazzolo Acreide, Spazio HUS in Milan and the Brodbeck Foundation. Among her notable participations are the 2nd edition of the FAM Award and the artist residency at Villa Aurea in the Valley of the Temples. Her works are part of collections in Italy and abroad, including the Museo delle Trame Mediterranee and the Fabbriche Chiaramontane in Agrigento. Her poetics is rooted in the memory of the place, reflecting on the fragility of matter and its correlation with the human experience. Through techniques such as cast, frottage and collage, Marilina captures the essence of abandoned places, transforming them into ephemeral landscapes. The fragment, in her work, becomes a metaphor for fracture and turbulence, offering new perspectives on living and the relationship between man and the environment.
